Merissa Racine

Hi. I'm Merissa Racine. I'm the author of The Crawford Mystery Series, set in Wyoming. I live and work in Wyoming as a court stenographer. I started my court reporting career many, many, many - okay, I'll just say it - over 40 years ago! Most of my career was as a freelance stenographer, taking depositions and covering administrative hearings, until seven years ago when I became an official and started working for one judge in our district courts.

The idea of writing a murder mystery had been in my head long before I started the writing process. When I became an empty nester I knew the timing was right to begin putting "pen to paper". My professional background infuses my mysteries with authenticity.

When I'm not in the courtroom working or writing, I like to read, mysteries mostly. No surprise there, right? I also spend time in my kitchen trying new recipes, or outside photographing nature. And last, but not least, I enjoy relaxing with Roz and Maya, my two dogs, and Zelda, my cat.

Thanks for stopping by!

Reflections on a Career in Court Reporting  I’ve been pondering the

I’ve been pondering the career of court reporting recently. In the past when I’ve told someone that was my profession the typical response has been, “That must be a fascinating career.” In many ways it truly is. Every day brings something new to listen to, topics I've never encountered before. I’ve learned so many things by listening to the many professionals in their field. As an example, I’ve listened to so many doctors over the years testify about illnesses, symptoms, procedures and...
